Sela Chau gongs are true masterpieces, handcrafted in China from a special bronze alloy. They are available in sizes 20, 24, 28, 32, and 36 inches. The larger the model, the deeper and more voluminous the sound when struck. Each model comes with a maple mallet with a plastic head covered in velvet and a zippered carrying case.
The Sela Chau Gong Standard has a traditional shape with a backward-curved rim. It is untreated on the outer edge and in the middle, and lathed on the area in between – this creates the characteristic appearance with its shimmering, matte-gold surface. Gongs
are an integral part of numerous cultures around the world and produce calming, long-lasting, esoteric sounds. Depending on how hard, where, and with what the Sela Chau gong is struck, different frequency ranges come to the fore. It can be played in far more ways than initially appears.
Gongs are used in meditation and sound therapy, among other things, due to their relaxing effect, as their vibrations permeate the entire body. Percussionists also like to use them for special effects in musical and orchestral contexts.
